On August 23 Central Italy was struck by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake. The quake was felt from Bologna in the north of Italy to Naples in the south.
At least 240 people have been killed and hundreds were injured in an earthquake that hit a mountainous area of central Italy, civil protection officials say. Dozens of aftershocks have been reported since.
More than 4,300 rescuers are using heavy lifting equipment and their bare hands. Many people are still believed to be buried under the rubble, and the death toll is expected to rise.
